The Astrology Of December 2022: Lost The Plot

November hosted a New Moon in Jupiter ruled Sagittarius five minutes before Jupiter turned direct in Pisces, a station which occurred not far away from Neptune, whom Jupiter conjoined on April 12th of 2022. He didn’t even come into conventional orb in November, but talking through transits with clients the past few weeks I noticed a theme of what Neptune was doing in their nativity and what understanding to this process Jupiter was offering. Often, when an aspect or configuration in the sky is expressing astrologers will tend to get a preponderance of clients with that aspect effecting their placements directly which gives an opportunity to see across a collection of microcosms what is playing out in parallel acros the multiplicitous macrocosms of the world. I noticed, in cases such as Neptune sitting for months flooding a native’s IC, that Saturn would be coming to the 4th house in March to add fortification where Jupiter has been increasing flow and expanding understanding of some territory Neptune has been rendering high saturation for some years on end. In the case of the IC and 4th, we might need to deal with flooding at our roots so we can get our foundations secure, realizing we are imaginative yes but delusional to some degree also and if foundational structures are not implemented we won’t be able to hold up our business, unable to obtain our objectives as the floor is too slippery or swampy. The 4th/IC example was just one of many, but for various reasons I found myself advising clients to attempt to get the gist of what wisdom and coherence Jupiter was offering in the proximity of Neptune’s expression, and this had me figure I should try to do some of the same on a larger scale.

A lot has been said about Jupiter’s last conjunction with Neptune in 1856, you can debrief in a bit I wrote here; Essentially the story goes the last conjunction coincides with the accidental discovery of the dye mauveine which triggers the chemical revolution, including everything synthetic in existence, simultaneous with the gold rush, accelerating western expansion and ushering in plastics, pharmaceuticals and the unnatural world as we know it— 2022’s round coincides with the realization that our bodies, blood and organs as well as everything else in existence are laced with microplastics, along with a looming Metaverse and out of control inflation rates. For this recent April 2022 conjunction Venus had just made it to Pisces but for the previous three conjunctions, 1856, 1690, 1524, Venus had been in Aquarius each time. Not only that, but Uranus was in Taurus for each of these conjunctions as well, which being a sign ruled by Venus means her desirings in Aquarius which coincided with three consecutive Jupiter-Neptune Pisces conjunctions were directing the revolutions, hasty experiments and turbulent shifts to societal baselines and norms for over three hundred years. This would track with:

-1517—1648 : Reformation

-1543 – 1687: Scientific Revolution

-1600—1800: enlightenment

-1770 and 1848: Romanticism

--and be the medium with which we find ourselves moving into the mid 1800s when we arrive at the split between post-Romanticism Realism and Symbolism-Decadence-Etc. Which as it degrades into Expressionism and atheism we might glimpse the literal final disconnect from living in the animist/karmic/morphic field to simply talking about archetypes abstractly in psychoanalysis, and voila, deities are merely ideas, and voila, non-deific ideas are allowed to gain more traction as predatory egregoric entities.

There is perhaps a be careful what you wish for moral to this story, as the 300 years of desiring updated, upgraded, innovative, conceptual systems and mental frameworks of Venus in Aquarius finds the Aquarian territory in the 2022 chart inhabited instead by Mars and Saturn, the planets of tactics and strategy that seriously make shit happen. So the dreams and desires of 1524-1690-1856 are brought up to consequence in 2022, and clearly we can feel their repercussions oppressively. The 1856 conjunction places Venus with Mercury in Aquarius trine to Saturn in Gemini (basically at the degree of both Venus’ 2020 retrograde station and 2022 Mars retrograde station) trine to Mars retrograde in Libra applying to the South Node (meaning this is on the rhythm of the upcoming Aries-Libra eclipse set as well). Venus desiring and Mercury thinking about something trine to two Malefics… well that doesn’t sound to unlike September 2022 when the Sun, Mercury and Libra trined Mars retrograde in Gemini and Saturn in Aquarius. There are enough echoes here to pay attention. Jupiter dreaming of simulated, synthetic or otherwise unreal realities with Venus having a crush of dispassionate, dissociative system designs in a period when Mars goes retrograde in an Air sign sounds like opportunities to expand boundlessly in a way which revolutionizes the stuff and substance of reality and does sketchy surgery to the social and cultural fabric.

The 1690 conjunction puts Mercury on Jupiter-Neptune, Venus in Aquarius square to Saturn in Scorpio which is opposite Uranus conjunct Mars in Taurus. Aspects from Uranus in Taurus to Mars and Saturn were a key feature of 2021 and 2022. This is also a Pluto opposition to now, so a pivot point on shadow power manipulations by hard aspect. This round is just under 200 years before the dawn of synthetics in society, although, major theological, critical and cognitive shifts draft a couple of the most problematic egregores in human history simultaneously, deciding reality is not what it seems but what experts say it is.

The 1524 conjunction is around the Pluto return point, at least by sign, and this time has Saturn conjunct Jupiter and Neptune, and being only seven years after the historical start of the Protestant Reformation we can see that religious structures are getting dissolved and changed along with substrata of societal stuff. This conjunction features not only Venus in Aquarius but Mars conjunct Chiron and the North Node tightly square to Uranus in Taurus— and indeed compulsion to violence and sectarianism was a feature of these new religious currents, which still shed blood and take lives today.

Could we call this Jupiter-Neptune-Pisces conjunction supercycle the Cycle Of Transhuman desires and with Jupiter having recently stationed direct near his last conjunction degrees yet at a safe distance to contemplate the inherent dangers and destruction of actually attempting to alter reality as it is distributed through power structures? We might pause to consider that all of our thoughts, our imaginations, our attention itself plays a major role in what material and inescapable conditions we are subject to, and that being responsible for upholding the equilibrium of the karmic or morphic field, the fabric of reality itself, requires all of us to be stewards of our attention, imaginings, desires before our actions even enter the arena. As we can see in this Jupiter-Neptune cycle, it is very possible to lose the plot to the point of living in a world with lies at its basis and drowning in synthetic toxins dispersed totally into the whole. We might try for a very different imagining this time, born of different desires, as Venus has found herself in Pisces this round, the first time since 1524 she hasn’t been in Aquarius, drunk on dreams of the future.

I wrote earlier in 2022 about another Jupiter supercycle, the recurrence of Jupiter-Chiron conjunctions which occur just after Mars stations direct in Gemini every three Jupiter Chiron conjunctions which are 47 years apart. For a full breakdown find that article here— but basically there is a form of societal expansion like mass electrification, telecommunications, space exploration or in this case digital everything, which coincides usually with mass traumatizing events and the need to collectively and culturally heal. 2022-2023 is a time we get right off the carousel of one Jupiter conjunction supercycle and right onto another. We can see that illustrated in Jupiter’s stations, which have these themes already strung together in a larger weave. Jupiter proceeded into Aries from Pisces in May of 2022, stationed direct on his way to conjoining Chiron, retrograded back almost to Neptune, then stationed direct before making a second contact— essentially the last motions of Jupiter were in this space between conjunctions, the previous he was coming from Neptune and now direct he is headed to Chiron by March 12th of 2023. For this event Mars will be moving out of shadow by passing over October 30th 2022’s retrograde station degree, approximately where Venus’ 2020 retrograde station degree was, and where Saturn participated in the grand trine when Jupiter conjoined Neptune in Pisces in 1856. What is the emphasis on 24 degrees Gemini all about, how it plays into the linking of these two Jupiter conjunction supercycle stories? Certainly binary and paradox have been incredibly present dynamics throughout the past three years; this portion of ecliptical arc needs further consideration as a circuitry that runs through the information of the time, the programing language the story operates in.

In simple terms December might flow as follows:

URGENT FANTASY AND ALARMING DELUSIONS SENDING SIGNALS THAT SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO ARRIVE AT ULTIMATE END-GOALS, OBSESSED WITH PROJECTED TARGETS WARPED BY FANTASY ETC.. ALTHOUGH, VENUS SEXTILING SATURN AND SUN TRINING CHIRON IMPLIES A WILLINGNESS TO ACCEPT HARD WORK AND HEALING, THE SQUARES TO JUPITER DISPLAY AWARENESS THAT SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE, AN ALARM GOES OFF IN THE BIGGER PICTURE AND THE SHIFT INTO CAPRICORN LOOKS LIKE MINDSET WHICH TAKES PLEASURE IN REELING IT IN AND MAKING A REALISTIC PLAN, THE OUTER PLANET SOFT ASPECTS IMPLIES A COMFORT WITH THE GREATER CIRCUMSTANCES WHILE STEADIED INTO A PLAN MODE WHICH DOESN’T DISTURB THE SUN AS HE DRAWS NEAR END GOALS, ALTHOUGH WE GET UNCOMFORTABLE DURING THE SQUARES TO CHIRON AND THEN GROW ITCHY TO BE IMPULSIVE TO ASSERT INDEPENDENCE AS JUPITER RETURNS TO ARIES AND THIS MEANS WE HAVE TO EDIT THE PLANS AND STRATEGIES WE BEGAN ORGANIZING OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS PRIOR, ESPECIALLY IN TERMS OF CREATIVITY, ROMANCE AND PLEASURE

There are projections we have of where we would be excited to be down the line, and maybe this has grown in urgency from the circumstances of the past few years— for instance, planets passing through Sagittarius have a different meaning now that it is totally free of the South Node, we can dream and hope and move again. A lot of the sloppiness of Mars retrograde square Neptune has displayed that we couldn’t arrive at the archipelago of our ideals if we are thrashing about sloppily in the water wasting our energy between multiple divergent activities. In an attempt to not be stupid and to succeed we might end up tightening our belts considerably as December rolls in. We might actually be delighted to, some conservatism and new found discipline might feel good— but as we see begin to realize we have placed ourselves at a distance from what we desire and are in a detriment of personal agency we return to the drawing board to adjust the plan so it includes more solid satisfaction as well as a wealth of autonomy. So a kind of seeing the mess we’re in, contracting to get a handle on it, then readjusting our hold to factor in for fun and effectiveness.

As stated above, Venus themes could be the crux of our late stage reconsiderations, factors of creativity, romance and pleasure generally putting their foot down and demanding we rethink our plans, or else we won’t be free to grow towards goals. As Mercury stations retrograde on the 29th conjunct Venus we may have deja vu of their double retrogrades in this territory last December, both occurring in and around Pluto as they are again this round. Oppressive shadow and heavy power plots could have ground certain activities to a halt then which are finding re-contextualization late December, and though Mercury does reverse to make a series of systematic or structural corrections Venus will proceed past Pluto quickly this time into Aquarius without a hitch, which might be a sign that the essence of Mercury’s rethinkings are both incepted in the heart and are simply realistic; whatever went wrong last winter must not be repeated this time.

That largely could have to do with Saturn already on track out of Aquarius, closing out the March 2020—March 2023 era, stepping down from the anti-throne of medical, collectivist, science minded authoritarianism by Spring, with the opportunity to integrate all that we went through personally and as a society available at this time, whilst Jupiter is curtly finishing up his Pisces transit this very month, closing a sequence which began in May 13th 2021. Closure, integration, moving on, new energy, preparing for new stories is certainly a thing here, which in combination with the Sun, Mercury and Venus’ preference for tradition, stratagem and old school discipline throughout the month it would not be surprising if people were very serious about their New Years resolutions for 2023, even if they have to rewrite and edit them a couple times to get them right. Now that almost everyone on earth’s big plans from the pre Saturn in Aquarius Jupiter in Sagittarius transit of 2019 got either put on major hold or crushed completely, the new motions and energetics of the world are finding people kind of spinning their wheels in the hangover of a psychologically terrifying episode knowing that if they are going to get anywhere equivalent to their previous holy grails it is on ourselves to saddle up and initiate the project.
