As outer planets slide back into the primordial slop from whence they came we can tangibly feel the spawning fluid of the past three, and simultaneously past fourteen and eight years, all burbling back into our sensory awareness and saturating our story-lines, but now there may be more context dominating the moment of that which seemed to have been rising like a powerful tide and hence forth simply dissolved, drained, petered out, slipped through our fingers or faded away. The once enchanted well is now just a shallow bowl of used wash water which we have no appropriate place to dispose of. Instead of merely sit and cry over that which once refreshed us and now is more a burden than anything else, dead weight in memory storage containers and possibly even emotional sewage seeping out and toxifying our surroundings, we must attempt to take whats left of our extinct emotional investments or outdated dreams and morph them into a fluid force which can modulate the mundane story beneath the surface and act as an agent of change, as this is actually becoming a game of high stakes soul survival, and we’ve got to be a bit severe if we we intend to not starve ourselves out from a nourishing existence, and be left forevermore (or what may seem like eternity) insatiable vampires looking for the next fix which is somehow always elsewhere, out of reach, in a virtual or literal beyond.

Ted Slampyak
Jupiter in the later degrees of Cancer can bring coherence to the spectrum of abundance and lack, where we understand in particular how much of the good stuff there is available in relation to how much we have access to ourselves and how much others have in their stores. Wisdom here illuminates that if we have more then they might have less and vis versa. Think of this as resources of all kind, whether they be wealth, food and drink, or opportunity, but whatever it may be it is that which fulfills and nourishes our life in a profound way, that which we need for life to be good and have meaning, for us to live well and for things to be ok. Knowing we don’t have enough of this and other people do can be a bit of a wake up call. September sees Mars in Scorpio as well as Saturn in Pisces all come into alignment, resonating harmonically across the zodiac and harmonizing three life layers across each person’s nativity.

Edith Rimmington
Mars and Saturn deal with life’s serious business. What requires us to critically respond and where we need to long game, be disciplined and what to strategize around. Scorpio is an incredibly potent place for Mars, where the tactical planet becomes shadowed in some considerable stealth, and maneuvers for survivals sake through life’s urgent, raw, and most visceral challenges. Saturn in Pisces obligates us to let go of some control and go with the flow so we can feel the tides and through this atmospheric awareness establish an enduring flow state towards strategic progress. We will be knowing what we truly need to access and expand upon to not starve and be working in the shadows (potentially viciously) to loosen up bonds and ride tides toward potentiated satiation.

Ithell Colquhoun
This highly dynamic and alchemical arrangement may speak out synchronistically; you may notice striking parallels between whats happening on various levels of emotional intelligence: intuition, instinct and empathy, as well as see connections between multiple parts of life, but trine aspects don’t always jam signals enough to spark activity, so its a nuanced energetic we want to lean into and use to our advantage, and to identify what and where it is we must go by feel. To be more specific, what we need, what makes us feel whole, safe, calm, rested, fed, deeply satisfied, what we long for, what we cannot go without, what stirs our passions, what expands our horizons, mystifies us, helps us zone out, let go, aid in our contemplation, spiritually connect or comprehend that All is ultimately One.

Stanley Spencer (and top)
But that is only one grand trine being strummed in October, the other plays out in air signs between planets transiting Libra (Mercury, Sun, Venus), Uranus in Gemini and Pluto in Aquarius. This one also interfaces with Neptune by opposition for most of the month, before Neptune retrogrades back to Pisces on the 22nd and joins the water trine. The Grand Air trine reflects new ideas, radical possibilities disruptive multiplicities, and turbulent optionalities as well as progressive, pioneering and concept updating precipice passages beyond the known and through fears which harken to the future, which dreams copiously about autonomy and direct agency. The Water trine on the other hand is a bit of a swirling maelstrom which seeks to burst the swollen abscesses of the past and let necrotic fluids drain away.

Ferdinand Hodler
Again, not all this fluid is foul, there is also known nectar to be had in newly generating emotions related to what is being now born. This is where the healing happens, where we are able to transform and grow more healthy as the immune system triggers, and survival at all costs is sought. Jupiter keys the two trines together, the struggle to birth a new existence and drain past pools which may be drowning us, as the Greater Benefic squares Libra from Cancer; what we know of whats available out there which could feed our much needed future growth in tension with disturbances in the general equilibrium and how we might get a handle on adjusting the mix of our life and the world it embeds itself in betwixt with are myriad checks and balances to negotiate.

Carolee Schneemann
Mercury ingresses Scorpio on the 6th as the Moon is mounting to Fullness in Mars’ other sign, Aries, giving a literal voice to our primal, visceral survival tactics. Although, this may or may not be spoken out loud, but will certainly convert our thoughts to urgent concerns running on animal logic and raw, deep emotions while our subjective experience swells with impulses to act independently as that is the most effective way, where we are unhindered by others and can step into our full capability. Mercury will be closing in on Mars towards a conjunction on the 20th, spinning up together the planet of logistics and the planet of tactics, likely accelerating thoughts but maybe in a smoldering way, which could encourage a slow-burn headspace or conversation ambiance. This might be the transceiver antennae tuned to broadcast dialogues from our guttural registers where words make lasting impact.

Edith Rimmington
The word ‘pumping” keeps coming to mind for October’s skies. With Mars in rulership things are happening, but it might not be readily visible to the outside world. This could be very psychological thriller-esque, vibes soaking a story line in moody, heady, heavy, and by the end hallucinatory or in some way warped. Not to say that it’s really negative, but there’ll be a lot of ideas flying around and some serious atmospherics as stories “progress” in non-linear, all permeating and visceral ways which make full apprehension of narrative blockades and slither between cracks, mist over walls, seep into sewers and drip along drainage pipes to the rhythm of heart beats and pounding pulses.

Marion Elizabeth Adnams
This maybe borders on Sci-Fi as well, but maybe in nosebleed sheerness, like high altitude fresh in ideas not yet explored spinning backwards like sparks as you have them, and haunt streams of consciousness or idle chat like hornets who threaten simply by their presence, but within their serum is a quickening of precognitive processes. Our fingers wiggle in motion searching for equilibriums to remix. Who and what is in relation to who and what that could be shifted as the social/cultural/relational/romantic circuitry gets at first bent or bridged experimentally and later re-wired, the results of so many note-to-selves in the steam of October’s emotional opus.

George Bellows
It feels a bit like siphoning fuel from someone else’s car in the night so you can strategically continue your journey and simultaneously they are unable to pursue you. The fluid in the tank is hidden behind the metal walls and stashed beneath in the belly of the vehicle, and even as it makes its way through the hose en route to the other tank it is still invisible, shrouded by the rubber which carries it along. In it’s new container it is also unseen, and even after you start the car and convert the substances into much needed mileage there is never a glimpse of the stuff: it all happened out of sight, despite the fact that you knew you needed it and it got you to where you needed to go as well as got you out of where you needed to escape from.

John Amhurst Selby-Bigge
Many more layers of abstraction could be added to the metaphor: the money paid for the fuel before it was lifted from tank A as well as the money saved by depositing it in tank B, the motivation and back story behind that motivation, and endlessly outward from there, cinematic sound pulses reorganizing the sand automatically with each frequency shift. This is a territory where you don’t necessarily check in first before you show up or alternately depart. In a world where an RSVP brings up too many questions and considerations it might be the most effective to no show oneself into the shadows and enter visibility again when its most advantageous to do so. I’m reminded of the retort: “that’s on a need to know basis and you don’t need to know”.

Petrus van Schendel
I think the only things to “know” at this juncture is what could nourish you as well as what you’d simply perish without. Otherwise, we’re presented with a morphable unfixity more likely to change than stay the same. The tide here is in and out, and when it’s out it’s out— but the set itself lasts until the end of winter, at which point the expanse of sands turns from beach to desert, and the horses of the new era come riding along with their riders glimpsed in the hazy semi-mirage on the horizon’s cinema screen throughout spring-summer 2025 but yet to be fully seen in the flesh.

Paul Nash
For the time being, as in, for the duration of October, enjoy the old lagoon if you can while you say fare yee well to flora, fauna and other inhabitants, haunts and immovable objects there in whatever way is most wise, with a thought and prayer said silently to yourself and a sip of whiskey, some poured on the ground before you walk off into the night, or, alternately, with a scheme woven across many months, many lives, many layers and many incarnations hatched in utter secrecy and involving only your own cunning and nothing said to anyone about it for eons, like wind rippling patterns on the surface of the water and swells rising and rolling, heaving one way or another.
